Install links will land here.

Thumbnails stay veiled — hover to reveal; a slow loop also shows the pass from blur to sharp.

How it works

Three switches. Blur stays on.

One clear idea per card. Turn on what you need — the rest stays quiet.

1

Blur thumbnails

On by default, including while hovering. The acrylic veil blocks visual spoilers.

2

Hover previews

Off by default. On: hovering clears the image and the preview plays clear, on home, search, and /watch.

3

Blur search results

Off by default, so videos on /results stay clear. Turn it on to veil search too.

Shorts

Shorts stay hidden.

There is no switch. Shorts disappear from the places that pull you into infinite scroll. The Shorts player itself is not hidden.

  • Shelves
  • Cards, including in search
  • Guide entry
  • Channel tab
YouTube Home Shorts removed

Shorts shelf folded. Guide Shorts entry crossed out. No switch — always hidden.

FAQ

Common questions

Which browsers does BlurTube run on?

Chrome and Firefox. Install links will be published when the store listings are live.

Does it cost anything?

The veil stays free. You can support the project on Buy Me a Coffee. No payment is required to use the extension.

What does the extension actually do?

It blurs YouTube thumbnails under an acrylic veil, hides Shorts (shelves, cards, the guide, and the channel tab), and offers three switches: thumbnail blur, hover previews, and search-result blur.

Do you collect any data?

No. The only permission is storage, used to remember your switches locally. Nothing is sent to a server.

Is the Shorts player blocked?

No. Shorts are hidden where they appear in the interface. The Shorts player itself is not hidden.
